Dishwasher fiasco

I learned a big lesson today with my dishwasher….  Do NOT use draino in it!  :D   Our dishwasher was not draining well for the past couple of months.  So, I had the idea about using draino to try to fix it.  Our filter and screen inside it was sooooooo utterly dirty, black, and MOLDY that when I was cleaning them, I had to wear a mask because the smell was so bad.  I also didn’t want to breathe in any mold!  After seeing how bad the filter and screen was, and seeing huge mold residue at the bottom where the filter was, my hubby thought my draino idea was great.  So he went out and bought some.

We poured a ton of draino in and then started the wash.  It wasn’t 15 minutes when our son urgently yells from the kitchen, “Mom! Mom!”  Thinking he may have seen a bug, I slowly walked over to him.  To my surprise, I see my kitchen floor halfway covered with soap (draino!)  suds and water!  Oh no!  My dishwasher had overflowed from the draino!  LOL.  I was able to get it cleaned up after a while.  All along, thinking of the many ways the LORD will teach us various lessons in our lives.    And now, for your viewing pleasure, here are photos I took of today’s “dishwasher fiasco”…

The good news about this whole ordeal is that we now have a clean kitchen floor and dishwasher.  Oh!  Also a clean stove — we had to pull out the stove to mop where liquid got underneath it.  I was able to clean the sides of the stove and the sides of the counter that has been so dirty for years.  :D   I thank the LORD that I even have a kitchen to clean up!

Blessings,

Soli Deo Gloria!

Disaster strikes the Klotz house. And the first thought that runs through your mind is, “Grab the camera!”

I actually liked the shot of the sandal.

And if there was a bug, it sure wasn’t the main problem now!

    Hi there,
I came across your blog post because I am frantically “Googling” for help after doing exactly what you did. Thought it’d be a genius idea too to put Drano in my dishwasher. I turned off the dishwasher because the suds were over flowing. Can you tell me how you got the dishwasher cleaned out? Did you just suffer through the suds and keep running the dishwasher (maybe on rinse only) or did you pour something else in the dishwasher to get it to stop sudding?
Thanks. I’m desperate and my husband is soooo mad (I didn’t run my brilliant idea by him first :( ).
